Re: [GrowingHealthyNappturalHair] The new girl - what to do?

Going natural does have good benefits, but I truely understand the need for new styles. About how long is your hair ? It will let me know what tyoe of styles to suggest that may work 4 you.

Also look in the File Section for treatments as well that may work 4 you.

I don't know what to do next. The hair style is great. I love the freedom of not having to deal with blow dryers, and other straighteners - but I am looking for some variety (of styles). I am also looking for shampoos/conditioning treatments that will help me to keep my hair moisturized - and healthy.

I am open to all suggestions - whether it be products/special combs/local salons (Chicago) to visit for consultations.

I am looking for recent pics to add to my profile so that you can see what I am working with.

Welcome to the group Kylana. Your name is pretty.

I heard Motions CPR is really good, quite a few members in the group use to talk about it including Anna who started the group. I still haven't tried it yet, and been saying I was 4 years.

If you are looking for new styles and products look in the File and Link sections of the group if you haven't already.....we have product reviews from our members along with links and instructions on how to create different styles.

The new girl - what to do?

2008-12-04 15:00:14

Hello everyone!

I am so glad that I have found a forum for healty, natural hair - where I don't feel as if I am seeking advice from somone who is only interested in selling a product to me!

Here is my situation: Back in March 2006, I had gone 6 months without any chemical treatments. I visited my stylist with a very short - funky hair cut that I wanted to try. To achieve this style, we went with a relaxer - during the process, my stylist commented that the product was breaking down too quickly in my hair. But the finished product turned out very hot!

After a few days of rockin' the new do - I resumed my workout routine. After the first wash - my hair went into these ringlet/curls. I have since kept this style (adding some conditioning products like Motions CPR).

It has now been almost 6 months since my last visit to the salon. I shampoo/condition 2 - 3 times a week (depending on the schedule), use a wide toothed comb to detangle, and finish with a leave-in conditioner. This has helped me to grow out my little curly fro.

Thanks everyone.

Wild Growth Hair Oil

2008-12-04 10:15:07

Hey all,
It's been a while since i posted anything. It has been a little over
two months since I did the big chop and I'm just enjoying my little
TWA. But I wanted to know had anyone tried Wild Growth Hair Oil (I
think thats the name)? If so, did you like it, was it beneficial to
your hair's health or was it a waste of money. Any responses will be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Angela

Yes, get a spray bottle and mix 3oz of distilled water, 1oz of Suave
conditioner (cheap and light) and 1/2oz of sweet almond oil. The
sweet almond oil is good for babies and older as long as she is not
allergic to it, if so you could use olive oil. This will help with
the dryness in hair and scalp. Also purchase some Shea butter mixed
with other oils, and after you co-wash her hair and spray the mixture
above, use the shea to seal in the moisture. I mix my own shea
butter, if you are interested I could mix some for you....I have
several friends who love the mixture and use it from head to
toe...Good Luck
Is there

Hello and welcome to the group!!

Sometimes our hair and the babies hair can suck up all moisture like a sponge.....trust me I know that is how my hair is.

First what other products have you currently used and used before??

I would reccomend all natural shea butter, mango butter, s-curl activator spray(not the texturizer just the spray), and oils like olive oil and apply these to the hair while her hair is still damp and work in. Even mixing the olive oil and other oils that you may use with the hair butters. The water will help seal in the moisture better.

Mixing a spray bottle filled with some water, oil, and leave-in conditioner to mist on her hair throughout the day to keep it moisturized. Also applying these products to her hair at night and twisting her hair up a bit or putting it in a bun will help keep her hair moisturized through the night and seal it in.

conditioners, oils or anything that will add moisture and make her
hair softer. I have been co-washing her hair and not using any
shampoo for the last 1-1 1/2 months. This has helped some. Is there
anything else I should do?

Re: [GrowingHealthyNappturalHair] Hello Too All

I'm not quite sure as to how this got into my inbox
because I usually have my email for this group
forwarded to a folder specifically for this group.
Anywho, I wanted to say, WELCOME!!!
Secondly, I wanted to say that statements such as, "My
hair isn't about a spiritual journey, or defining my
"Blackness"., nor a political statement against how
nappy hair is viewed" have been among the majority of
the reason(s) why I've given hair groups a rest.
Don't get me wrong, I'm thoroughly excited that you
decided to go natural after not having the funds to
get your hair "done" at the salon or because of the
heat or whatever the reason may have been. Anytime a
sistah decides to wear her hair naturally, I'm happy
for her, no matter what the reason.
As a woman who DOES feel attached to her natural hair
and and the reasons WHY she decided to wear her hair
in its natural state, I CANNOT separate the two. Never
have been able to and never will be. I can't discuss
with someone pressing their hair one minute and being
natural the next without thinking about the
psychological/social aspects of it, which is why I've
butted out of most of the conversations until now.
Anywho, sounds like you have the basics down for
yourself, which is great. Good luck on your journey.
Anna

Re: Hair changing

Thanks for the advice. I resisted the urge to throw a chemical into
my hair. I made an appointment instead to get a trim since it's been
about 6 months. By the way, another urge that I constantly fight is
cutting my own hair. The man that cuts my hair told me, "Girl, I keep
telling you and telling you, you can either have scissors in the house
or vodka but you can't keep them both in the house at the same time."
Anyway, thanks for keeping me from ruining what's taken so long to
grow out. Love, Kimberly
